“New Aspect” represents an upward energetic impetus and a significant imprint of culture, both in Taiwan domestically and internationally. It directly conveys the impressions of “performances and artistic activities” and has constituted a history of rich and pluralistic social values and humanities in the past 36 years.

First established in 1978 as “New Aspect Promotion Corporation” by Po-Yun Hsu, Fu-Sheng Chiu, Chen-wei Thomas Tsai, and Man-Nong Fan, New Aspect was originally inspired by the idea of promoting all aspects of nature and humanity, with a particular emphasis on fine arts and sports. Due to the conservative atmosphere of Taiwan nearly 40 years ago, New Aspect therefore initiatively focused on planning, producing, and presenting non-controversial events and then gradually breaking through the obstacles, lifting the bans and striking the impact to the society.

The 42-year history of New Aspect is an aggregate of multitudinous events. Since the very first series of activities such as Elloy Electronic Music Demonstration and Asia New Environment in Music in 1978, New Aspect has undertaken over 10,000 events including 2600 performances and presentations as well as 38 festivals of various art forms within 4 years held by New Aspect Arts Center. Over 20,000 artists from 102 countries and myriad ethnic groups have made their appearances to more than 10 million audiences, viewers and participants at 135 different venues in 88 cities / counties in Taiwan. Among them, more than 100 grand-scale world premieres and countless Taiwan premieres were held by New Aspect. As a result, not only have these events enhanced the interactions and exchanges among different cultures, but also contributed in raising the local artists status, preserving the traditional arts and introducing the ethnic heritage to the world.

Throughout the past three decades, New Aspect has played a significant role in influencing the society and people, leading the trends, renovating perspective on arts, elevating the standard of living, expending global vision and even changing the governmental regulations and legislations in Taiwan. These achievements thus have embedded New Aspect as the pioneer of culture and a predecessor of tradition which merges the past with present and forges ahead into the future. New Aspect is going to celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2018. We will keep the same spirit back to 40 year ago, promote the cultural exchange and activities continually and enrich cultural life in Taiwan with colourful activities of arts.
